Abstract:
A light source unit used for backlight for applying light to a display panel of a liquid crystal display device includes a cold cathode tube having a discharge electrode at each end of a glass tube filled with a discharge gas. A coil as an inductance element is connected to at least one of the discharge electrodes of the cold cathode tube. Thus, it is possible to eliminate the difficulty of handling caused by that the cold cathode tube has the negative electrode characteristic that the resistance value is lowered as the current is increased, i.e. the tendency of current runaway.
