Abstract:
A transmitter (10) differential-encodes control information to generate a differential-encoded signal, and the transmitter (10) uses the differential-encoded signal to modulate a signal sequence in which power is concentrated at a particular frequency. Further, the transmitter (10) time-division-multiplexes the main signal of a polarized wave that is one of two polarized wave components, and the transmitter (10) time-division-multiplexes the main signal of the other polarized wave with just the signal sequence in which power is concentrated at the particular frequency. Then, the transmitter (10) transmits, to a receiver (20), a signal light obtained by polarization-multiplexing the two time-division-multiplexed polarized waves. The receiver (20) polarization-divides the received signal light to generate the two polarized wave signals. Further, the receiver (20) extracts, from the two polarized wave signals, the signal sequence in which power is concentrated at the particular frequency, and the receiver (20) differential-detects the extracted signal sequence and demodulates the control information.
