Abstract:
A light wavelength conversion member which can achieve both high fluorescence intensity and high color homogeneity, and a light emission device are provided. This light emission device 1 is provided with a container 3, a light emitting element 5, and a light wavelength conversion member 9. The light wavelength conversion member 9 is configured from a ceramic sintered body, which is a polycrystal having as main components Al2O3 crystal grains and crystal grains of a component represented by chemical formula A3B5O12:Ce. More specifically, A and B in A3B5O12 are at least one element selected from the element groups below. At least one element selected from the element groups below is distributed on crystal grain boundaries and inside of crystal grains of the ceramic sintered body, and of the elements distributed inside of the crystal grains and on the crystal boundaries, the concentration on the crystal boundaries is higher than the concentration in the crystal grains.
