The disclosed backlight device (12) is provided with: a chassis (14) wherein an attachment hole (31) is provided; a cold cathode tube (17); a diffusion plate (15a); a main body section (27) which is attached to the chassis (14); a lamp holding unit (28) which can hold the cold cathode tube (17); a support pin (29) which is arranged at an eccentric position in the main body section (27) and which can support the diffusion plate (15a); and an attachment unit (30) which is inserted in the attachment hole (31) and which can hold the hole edge of the attachment hole (31) between the main body section (27). The device is further provided with a plurality of lamp clips (18) which are slid along the axial direction of the cold cathode tube (17) in the case of attachment to or detachment from the chassis (14), and which are arranged so that the distance from a reference line (L) to the support pin (29) is relatively less than the distance from the reference line (L) to the centre of the main body section (27), and so that the slide direction of the clips during attachment are opposite directions in two regions (A1, A2) which are adjacent to one another and which sandwich the reference line (L).
