Abstract:
Disclosed is a lighting device that minimizes unevenness in brightness levels. A backlight device (12) is provided with: LEDs (17) which serve as light sources and each have a light distribution with the peak of emission intensity at an angle to the normal direction; a chassis (14) that contains the LEDs (17) and is open on the light-output side thereof; and light-directing parts (22) that protrude towards the light-output side from the surface on which the LEDs (17) are emplaced, thereby directing the light towards the light-output side. Using light sources that are LEDs (17) with light distributions having emission-intensity peaks angled with respect to the normal direction makes it possible to widen the region (A) illuminated at peak intensity, thereby lessening the degree of unevenness in the planar brightness distribution of the outgoing light.
