A backlight device 12 is provided with: a housing 13 having a light-emitting unit 13a; an LED 14 housed inside the housing 13; a prism sheet 19 having a plurality of unit prisms 19b1 provided in a form so as to be disposed on the light-emitting unit 13a and extending along a first direction, and aligned along a second direction that is orthogonal to the first direction; and a reflective sheet 17 with a light transmission function. The reflective sheet 17 has light-transmitting units 20 for transmitting light and light-reflecting units 21 for reflecting light, arranged closer to the LED 14 with respect to the prism sheet 19 in the light-emitting unit 13a. The reflective sheet 17 is such that, in an LED placement area LA that includes a portion superimposed at least with the LED 14, the area ratio of the light-reflecting units 21 is higher than in the surrounding LED non-placement areas LNA, and at least the light-transmitting units 20 form a long shape along the first direction.
