Abstract:
The objective of the present embodiment is to provide a lighting device and a display device, capable of improving the light use efficiency. The lighting device according to the present embodiment comprises an electrochromic element and a light source provided on a side edge of the electrochromic element. The electrochromic element comprises a first transparent base plate, a first transparent electrode provided on the first transparent base plate, a second transparent base plate facing the first transparent base plate, a protrusion provided on the second transparent base plate and protruding toward the first transparent base plate, a second transparent electrode provided in a portion of the protrusion, and an electrolyte layer provided between the first transparent base plate and the second transparent base plate and containing an electrochromic material that contains a redox-capable reflective material.
