This invention provides the following: a lighting device that amply accommodates viewers' desires to enjoy a painting or the like together with a sound source that produces a rich sense of presence; and a frame with said lighting device attached thereto. Said lighting device has a signal reception unit (50) that can receive an external audio signal, a musical-piece extraction unit (60) that can extract a musical piece consisting of a sequence of consonant sounds from said audio signal, a musical-performance-state detection unit (70) that can detect the beginning and end of said musical piece in accordance with the results of the extraction performed by the musical-piece extraction unit (60), a first light that can emit ultraviolet light, a second light that can emit white light, and a lighting control unit (23) that can turn the first light on and off, turn the second light on and off, and control the intensity of the illumination produced by the second light. When the beginning of the musical piece is detected, the first and second lights are turned on, and when the end of the musical piece is detected, the first and second lights are turned off.
