Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing, with a simple configuration, a lighting device capable of switching between intensity distributions of emitted light. This lighting device includes a light source, a polarization control means, and a polarization plate. The polarization control means causes light emitted from the light source to enter the polarization plate while switching said light to at least two types of light in different polarization states. The polarization plate is provided with, in an in-plane direction, at least two types of regions having different polarization states for light transmitting therethrough. The polarization plate, in which one or more types of the regions are periodically disposed, functions as a diffraction grating. As a result, said problem is solved.
