Title:
A LIGHTING SYSTEM SHOWING THE START TIME OF THE NEXT TRAFFIC SIGNALING PHASE AT ADJUSTABLE DISTANCE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2019/054974
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
Traffic lights causes uncertainty about when the next phase starts and affect the traffic flow negatively. Vehicles can raise their speeds quickly to catch up the light, then try to stop with sudden brakes or perform traffic light violations. To overcome this problem, traffic lights are equipped with numerical counters and/or light counters. However, unless the numerical counter is approached, it cannot be read clearly and illuminated counters are only beginning to work in the last few seconds. The installation of a second lighting system that will coordinate with the traffic light along the road instead of these two methods will remove all these problems altogether. In addition, all vehicles will be able to see the speed limit of the road segment concerned. In addition, it will be possible to increase the traffic safety and capacity by showing when the next phase begins, and how long it will last.

Description:
A lighting system showing the start time of the next traffic signaling phase at adjustable distance

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to roadside lighting that can be coordinated with traffic lights to increase traffic safety.

Background Art

[0002] Traffic signaling systems are widely used throughout the world. These systems work according to predetermined parameters. In this way, a signaling system can work either with fixed time or with traffic adaptation. Fixed-time signaling systems operate at preset times according to the specified phase plans. Although the signaling system leads to flows with certain sequences, there are some troublesome processes. These troublesome processes can be listed as follows. Vehicles approaching the intersection are accelerating above the speed limits to pass the green light. In this case, both, violating the traffic rules and putting the safety of life and property in danger. Also, there is not always a chance that every accelerating vehicle will catch the green light. As a result, either sudden braking can result in both financial damage and the possibility of steering loss. Even worse, the collusion of the vehicle with the next phase can cause traffic accidents. In addition, fluctuations in the traffic flow rate also reduce the current capacity. When all these problems are considered, a numerical counter placed in the traffic light or lighting systems burning in the last seconds are applied as a precaution. But there are also shortcomings here. The numerical counter cannot be read clearly without approaching a certain distance. In this case, the vehicle's driver remains in the dilemma and show unstable driving. And on the other hand, the lighting system works only in the last few, generally five, seconds. In this case, the vehicle drivers do not know exactly how long it takes the light will change.

Technical Problem

[0003] A second lighting system that will work in coordination with the traffic signaling system will be installed at preset intervals on the right and left sides of the road, along the approach link to the intersection. So, the system will start to work at the desired distance. Because there is no numerical counter in this way, the vehicle drivers will not have any visual difficulty. In addition, the entire system will renew itself at the end of the pre-set time period, so, the second system will make the drivers clear by lighting up constantly. At this point, the system will not only work for the last few seconds but will work continuously to inform the drivers of the time of the next light.

Detailed Description of Invention

[0004] A lighting system is installed to be placed on the right and left side of the road so that the

approaching traffic to the intersection can be understood the current and next phase timings. This lighting system can be a light strip extending at a desired distance along the road, as well as lighting fixtures arranged at certain intervals, such as cat eyes. In addition to these two methods, there may also be lighting devices to be built directly on the road pavement.

Embedded lighting systems consist of red, yellow and green colors like the same traffic light. It works in coordination with the cycle times of the traffic light approaching.

[0005] For the system to operate properly, n pieces light fixtures are placed along the desired distance from the traffic light to the previous junction. If the apparatus closest to the traffic light is called a t and the farthest apparatus is called a n , the time required for the combustion of the lighting color at apparatus a n to apparatus α^ η _^ is calculated by the following equation.

[0006] <>„,„_ !

[0007] Where, S n , n -i is the time lag for glowing the same color as the light a n on n _ 1( X nin -i is the distance between the apparatus a n and a^.-^, and V is the desired speed for the vehicles in the corresponding road section. With the help of the equation above, the farthest apparatus transfers its own light color to the previous apparatus in precalculated time. In the last case, the light emitted in the apparatus a is transferred to the traffic light. In this way, the light color that starts in the apparatus a n moves towards the traffic light at the speed required to comply with the traffic flow in the relevant road section. During the predetermined period, the light in the apparatus a n turns on, and the color is transferred to the apparatus a^.-^ at the end of the period calculated with the help of the equation. As long as the color of the apparatus a n does not change, the color change does not occur in the apparatus ^ n ^. With this dynamic lighting system installed at the side of the road, it will be clearly visible to all drivers. As a result of this operation, the drivers will understand the speed limit of the corresponding road. Also, the drivers can adjust their own speeds and conditions according to these lights. This will avoid both unstable driving and the ability to see if any drivers will flash when they reach the traffic light without testing their ability to control the distance. As a result, safety will be increased, vehicle speed differences will be minimized, road capacity will be increased.

Industrial Applicability

[0008] A lighting system that displays the remaining signalization phasing times can be solve the

above-mentioned technical problem and can be constructed like cat eyes and street lamps placed on the sides of the road
