Disclosed in the present invention is lightweight composite titanium dioxide, raw materials of which comprises, in parts by weight: 50-90 parts of a white inorganic filler, 1-50 parts of rutile titanium dioxide, 0.1-3 parts of a dispersing aid, 1-20 parts of an acrylic resin adhesive, 0.1-2 parts of hydroxyethyl cellulose and 0.1-2 parts of a PH regulator. The composite titanium dioxide has a porous microsphere structure, and has a density of 0.5-1.2 g/cm3. The composite titanium dioxide has a small density and is lightweight, floats on the surface layer in a coating, is uniformly and densely distributed, has a small specific surface area and high light reflecting and scattering capacity, and can improve the covering power, whiteness and weather resistance of a coating film. In addition, a preparation method for the composite titanium dioxide is simple, environmentally friendly, and has a low cost and a high feasibility; and during the preparation process, the agglomeration process of composite titanium dioxide porous microspheres can be regulated and controlled. Therefore, the lightweight composite titanium dioxide in the present invention has good application prospects in the coating field.
