Abstract:
A lightweight pressure vessel, characterized in that it comprises a material which contains 50 to 99 vol % of metallic aluminum and 1 to 50 vol % of fine carbon fibers having a fiber diameter of 0.5 to 500 nm and a fiber length of 1000 μm or less and having a central axis having a hollow structure, wherein the above fine fibers are uniformly distributed in the metallic aluminum. Preferably, the above carbon fibers have a coating layer or treating layer for enhancing the affinity to aluminum on the surface thereof. The lightweight pressure vessel made of aluminum can be used for being filled with a LP gas, a natural gas, a hydrogen gas for a fuel cell, or the like and is suitable for being put on board in a mobile unit such as a vehicle, a ship, an aircraft or a portable device.
