Abstract:

A hypolipidemic drug which has a potent activity of reducing LDL and VLDL cholesterols which are thought to be a risk factor causative of arteriosclerosis among total blood cholesterols and is excellent in the antioxidant activity on LDL; and a compound represented by general formula (I) and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein R1 represents optionally substituted lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylated lower alkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R2 represents -COOR', lower alkyl or halogenated lower alkyl, or aternatively R1 and R2 form together with the adjacent carbonyl group a cyclohexanone ring represented by formula (II); R3 represents optionally substituted phenyl; and ring A represents an optionally substituted benzene ring or an optionally substituted heterocycle containing either sulfur or oxygen.
