Abstract:
Provided are a lignin-degrading catalyst that has exceptional properties for degrading lignin and that readily isolates lignin after a degradation reaction, a method for manufacturing the lignin-degrading catalyst, and a method for degrading lignin. This lignin-degrading catalyst comprises a substrate and at least one metal compound anchored to the catalyst, the at least one metal compound containing a copper compound. This method for manufacturing a lignin-degrading catalyst comprises a step for bringing a copper porous substrate and an oxidant-containing solution into contact with each other to thereby obtain a substrate to which a copper compound is anchored, or a step for performing electrode oxidation on a copper porous substrate to thereby obtain a substrate to which a copper compound is anchored.
