A line gear mechanism having a variable transmission ratio. The mechanism is a transmission pair consisting of a driving wheel (1) and a driven wheel (3), the axes thereof intersecting at any angle. Transmission is generated by point-contact meshing movements between the driving wheel line teeth (2) and the driven wheel line teeth (4, 5; 6, 7). The contact line of the line teeth is designed according to spatial conjugate curve meshing theory. The design equation is divided into two parts: equal transmission ratio and variable transmission ratio. The equal transmission ratio part provides a constant-speed transmission, and the variable transmission ratio part allows a smooth transition of the transmission ratio. The line gear mechanism is capable of providing transmission having a periodically variable transmission ratio, providing a plurality of transmission ratios within the period of motion of the driven wheel (3) and enabling a smooth transition between the transmission ratios in accordance with the laws of motion.
