Abstract:
An appliance (100) includes a linear hinge (200) that couples a door (120) to a cabinet (110). The linear hinge (200) includes a bearing (210) and an elongated shaft (220) received within the bearing (210) such that the elongated shaft (220) is slidable along a translation axis. A distal end portion (222) of the elongated shaft (220) is rotatably connected to the door (120) such that the door (120) is rotatable about a rotation axis that extends through the distal end portion (222) of the elongated shaft (220). A first linkage arm (232) is rotatably connected to the bearing (210). A second linkage arm (234) is rotatably connected to the elongated shaft (220) and to the first linkage arm (232). The distal end portion of the elongated shaft (220) is spaced from the bearing (210) by a gap along the translation axis when the door (120) is closed, and a sum of a length of the first linkage arm (232) and a length of the second linkage arm (234) is greater than the gap.
