Abstract:
Provided are: a liquid crystal composition satisfying at least one of the properties such as high upper limit temperature, low lower limit temperature, low viscosity, appropriate optical anisotropy and greatly negative dielectric anisotropy, or having an appropriate balance for at least two of the properties; and an AM element comprising this composition. The liquid crystal composition contains a specific compound having a greatly negative dielectric anisotropy as a first component and a specific compound having a low viscosity as a second component, and may contain a specific compound having a high upper limit temperature or a low viscosity as a third component, a specific compound having a negative dielectric anisotropy as a fourth component, or a specific compound having a polymerizable group as an additive component.
