Abstract:
Provided are: a liquid crystal composition that contains one or more compounds represented by general formula (a) and one or more compounds represented by general formula (ii), that does not cause a reduction in the refractive index anisotropy (Δn) and in the nematic phase - isotropic liquid phase transition temperature (Tni), that has a sufficiently low viscosity (η), that has a sufficiently low rotation viscosity (γ1), that cancels or suppresses flickering from occurring, and that has a negative dielectric anisotropy (Δε) of which the absolute value is high; and an excellent display-quality liquid crystal display element that uses the composition, and having a high response speed and being free of, or suppressing malfunction in display such as drop marks, image sticking (IS), or unevenness in display, etc.
