Abstract:
Provided are: a liquid crystal composition which is capable of achieving vertical alignment of liquid crystal molecules by the action of a polymer; and a liquid crystal display element which contains this composition.
A nematic liquid crystal composition which contains, as a first component, a specific liquid crystalline compound having a large negative dielectric anisotropy, while containing, as a first additive, a polar compound having a polymerizable group, and which has a negative dielectric anisotropy. This nematic liquid crystal composition may optionally contain, as a second component, a specific liquid crystalline compound having a high upper limit temperature or a low viscosity, as a third component, a specific liquid crystalline compound having a large negative dielectric anisotropy, and as a second additive, a polymerizable compound. A liquid crystal display element which contains this composition.
