Abstract:
Provided are: a liquid crystal composition which is capable of achieving vertical alignment of liquid crystal molecules by the action of a polar compound and a polymer; and a liquid crystal display element which contains this composition.
A nematic liquid crystal composition which contains, as a first additive, a polar compound, while containing, as a second additive, a polymerizable compound having at least three polymerizable groups, and which has a negative dielectric anisotropy. This composition may contain, as a first component, a specific liquid crystal compound that has a large negative dielectric anisotropy, and as a second component, a specific liquid crystal compound that has a high upper limit temperature or a low viscosity. A liquid crystal display element which contains this composition.
