Abstract:
Provided is a liquid crystal composition containing one or more compounds represented by general formula (L) and three or more dichroic dyes selected from azo compounds. Also provided is a guest-host type liquid crystal display element or light modulation element using the same. This liquid crystal composition contains dichroic dyes that satisfy all of a high contrast, high solubility, high nematic-isotropic phase transition temperature (TNI), and low birefringence anisotropy (∆n) effective for high light resistance and high heat resistance. The use of this liquid crystal composition provides a liquid crystal display element or light modulation element that has a good black appearance, high contrast, high display quality, and high practicality.
