Abstract:
Provided are a liquid crystal composition capable of achieving vertical alignment of liquid crystal molecules without using an alignment film through the action of a polymer having a polar group, and a liquid crystal display element that contains this composition. A nematic liquid crystal composition having negative dielectric anisotropy and containing a polar compound that has a polymerizable group as a first additive and may contain a polymerizable compound as a second additive, and a liquid crystal display element that contains this composition are used.
