Provided is a liquid crystal composition, including a reciprocal wavelength dispersion polymerizable liquid crystal compound and additive monomers (A or B), wherein the liquid crystal compound comprises a main-chain mesogen and a side-chain mesogen in a molecule, if the main-chain mesogen and the side-chain mesogen are uniformly oriented then the optical axes thereof are disposed in different directions, thus giving birefringence (Δn) reciprocal wavelength dispersal characteristics, and when a wavelength (λ) is in the range 380 nm to 780 nm and the additive monomer has been dispersed within the liquid crystal compound, the additive monomer (A) fulfills expression (i) and the additive monomer (B) fulfills expression (ii). ne>nea and nonob Expression (ii) (where the refractive index in the slow axis direction of the liquid crystal compound is ne and that in the fast axis direction thereof is no; the refractive index in the ne direction of the additive monomer (A) when dispersed in the liquid crystal compound is nea and that in the no direction thereof is noa; and the refractive index in the ne direction of the additive monomer (B) when dispersed in the liquid crystal compound is neb and that in the no direction thereof is nob)
