Abstract:
Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device (1), which is provided with a liquid crystal display panel (10) that displays images, and a blue LED (32) which emits light to the liquid crystal display panel (10). The liquid crystal display panel (10) is provided with a glass substrate (12) on the side where the blue LED (32) is disposed, and a glass substrate (19) disposed to face the glass substrate (12) with a liquid crystal layer (17) therebetween. On the glass substrate (12), a phosphor layer (13) that emits a plurality of different colors for displaying the images is disposed between the liquid crystal layer (17) and the glass substrate, and the blue LED (32) emits blue light for exciting the phosphor layer (13). Thus, use efficiency of light emitted from the light source is improved, and deterioration of reliability and cost increase are suppressed.
