Abstract:
Provided are: a liquid crystal device such that problems such as the occurrence of flickering do not arise even when performing dormant driving; and a method for driving the liquid crystal device. When a sleep in command is input to the liquid crystal display device, a source driver and gate driver are controlled in a manner such that an AC voltage is generated and imposed on a liquid crystal layer in order to cancel the accumulation of charge by impurity ions distributed in a biased manner due to a biased polarity due to the voltage imposed on the liquid crystal layer until the point in time the command is input. As a result, the liquid crystal display device transitions to a sleep period in the state of the accumulation of charge by impurity ions distributed in a biased manner being cancelled. Thus, when returning from the sleep period, no longer does flickering due to a deviation in optimum common voltage occur nor do residual images occur due to burning in of the liquid crystals.
