Abstract:
The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device that is unlikely to cause peeling even if a frame thereof is narrowed, and that exhibits a high voltage retaining rate and allows high manufacturing efficiency. The liquid crystal display device according to the present invention is provided with: a pair of substrates (2a, 2b) disposed so as to be opposing each other; a liquid crystal layer (3) that contains a liquid crystal material and is disposed between the pair of substrates; a seal material (4) that surrounds the liquid crystal layer in a planar view, is disposed between the pair of substrates in a cross-sectional view, and is in contact with the pair of substrates; alignment control layers (5a, 5b) that, in an area surrounded by the seal material in a planar view, are disposed between the pair of substrates and the liquid crystal layer in a cross-sectional view and are in contact with the liquid crystal layer. The alignment control layers contain a polymer that includes a unit derived from a first monomer and a unit derived from a second monomer. Liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal material are aligned in the direction perpendicular to the surfaces of the pair of substrates. The first monomer is represented by a predetermined chemical formula.
