Abstract:
The disclosed liquid crystal display device has a first base that has wiring layers (16, 18) formed on a support base (21), an insulating coating (43) formed on the support base in such a manner that the wiring layers are covered, and an oriented film (23) that is formed by the hardening of a liquid oriented film material (24).A frame region (32) includes a formation region (34) for a seal member (14). A depression (48), which sinks into but does not penetrate the insulating coating (43), is formed on the surface of the insulating coating (43). At least a part of the depression (48), seen from the normal vector to the surface of the support base (21), overlaps the wiring layers (16, 18). An edge (25) of the oriented film (23) is supported by a rim (51) of the depression (48) and the bottom of the depression (48) is exposed from the oriented film (23). Therefore, the spread of oriented film material can be controlled while the non-display region of the liquid crystal display device is greatly reduced.
