Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device wherein countermeasures against heat of a backlight are taken. The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal display panel (10), and the backlight (14). The backlight (14) has: a plurality of light emitting diodes (16), each of which has the anode and the cathode; and a first substrate (18-1) and a second substrate (18-2), each of which has the light emitting diodes (16) mounted thereon. The first substrate (18-1) and the second substrate (18-2) are disposed adjacent to each other, and the light emitting diodes (16), which are adjacent to each other by sandwiching a boundary between the first substrate (18-1) and the second substrate (18-2), are disposed such that the anodes of the light emitting diodes face each other and that the light emitting diodes are arranged with a pitch equivalent to or smaller than the pitch with which other adjacent light emitting diodes (16) are disposed.
