Abstract:
The liquid crystal display device of the present invention comprises a liquid crystal panel, a pair of polarizing layers, an illumination device, and an emission angle control member. The liquid crystal panel includes a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer is held between the pair of substrates. The pair of polarization layers is disposed on the light-incident side and the light-emission side of the liquid crystal layer. The illumination device is disposed on the light-incident side of the liquid crystal panel, and emits light toward the liquid crystal panel. The emission angle control member is disposed on the light-emission side of the liquid crystal panel, and controls the emission angle of light emitted from the liquid crystal panel. In the azimuth direction viewed from the direction of the line normal to the liquid crystal panel, the azimuth direction in which the viewing angle of the liquid crystal panel is relatively narrow, and the azimuth direction in which the amount of light emitted toward the liquid crystal panel from the illumination device is relatively small roughly coincide.
