Abstract:
Provided is a liquid crystal display device which is adaptable in liquid crystal display devices of reduced thickness (i.e., the polarizer protective film has sufficient mechanical strength), and in which visibility does not deteriorate due to rainbow-form color spots. This liquid crystal display device has a backlight light source, and a liquid crystal cell disposed between two polarizing plates, wherein the backlight light source is a white light source having a continuous light emission spectrum, and the polarizing plates are configured by laminating a polarizer protective film on both sides of the polarizer. At least one of the polarizer protective films of the polarization plate disposed on the light emission side of the liquid crystal cell is a polyester film having 3000-30000nm retardation, and at least one of the polarizer protective films of the polarization plate disposed on the light incidence side of the liquid crystal cell is a cycloolefin resin film, a polyolefin resin film, or a (meth)acrylic resin film.
