Abstract:
The present invention is a liquid-crystal display device, wherein a backlight unit (31), an optical transduction member (16), a polarized light splitting member (5), a backlight-side polarizer (1), a liquid-crystal cell (42), and a display-side polarizing plate (44) are positioned in this order. The backlight unit comprises a light source (31A) which emits a non-polarized blue light. The polarized light splitting member (5) splits the non-polarized blue light which enters therein from a normal direction into blue transmitted light and blue reflected light which are linearly polarized light of mutually orthogonal oscillation directions, and transmits a portion of light at the 500-600nm and 600-650nm wavelength bands respectively. The optical transduction member (16) includes a fluorescent light material which emits green light which is linearly polarized light and red light which is linearly polarized light by the blue light which enters the optical transduction member (16). A transmission axis of the backlight-side polarizer (1) is parallel to the oscillation directions of the green light and the red light. With this liquid-crystal display device, front face brightness and a color reproduction domain are improved.
