Abstract:
The liquid crystal display device according to an embodiment of the present invention is provided with first and second substrates and a vertical-alignment-type liquid crystal layer. The first substrate has a pixel electrode and a first photoalignment film. The second substrate has a counter electrode and a second photoalignment film. Each pixel has a plurality of liquid crystal domains having mutually different reference alignment directions. The plurality of liquid crystal domains include a first liquid crystal domain in which the reference alignment direction thereof is a first direction. Among a plurality of edges of the pixel electrode, a portion close to the first liquid crystal domain includes a first edge part in which the azimuth angle direction orthogonal to the portion and toward the inside of the pixel electrode forms an angle of more than 90° with the first direction. In a region in the vicinity of the first edge, when a region thereof in which the first edge part and a boundary between the first liquid crystal domain and another liquid crystal domain intersect is referred to as a first bending region, the pixel electrode or the counter electrode has a first slit formed in the vicinity of the first bending region and extending substantially parallel to the first direction, and does not have a slit other than the first slit within the region in the vicinity of the first edge part.
