Abstract:
Provided is a liquid crystal display device having suppressed color variation when viewed from an oblique direction during black display, even when there is a shift in the bonding angle between a polarizer and an optical compensation layer. This liquid crystal display device includes at least a liquid crystal cell and a pair of polarizing plates arranged so as to sandwich the liquid crystal cell therebetween. The tilt angle of a liquid crystalline compound is no more than 1.0°; each color filter arranged upon each pixel area in the liquid crystal cell is included more on the visible side than the liquid crystal cell, between the pair of polarizing plates; the Rth of each color filter fulfills a prescribed condition; the polarizing plate arranged on the visible side, out of the pair of polarizing plates, includes the optical compensation layer and a polarizer, from the liquid crystal cell side; and the optical compensation layer fulfils a prescribed condition.
