Abstract:
Disclosed are: a vertically aligned liquid crystal display element which can be increased in the response speed without addition of a photopolymerizable compound; a method for producing the vertically aligned liquid crystal display element; and a liquid crystal aligning agent which is suitable for the vertically aligned liquid crystal display element. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing a vertically aligned liquid crystal display element wherein: liquid crystal alignment layers are respectively formed by coating two substrates with a liquid crystal aligning agent that contains at least one material that is selected from the group consisting of polyamic acids having a side chain (A) that vertically aligns liquid crystals and a photoreactive side chain (B) and polyimides obtained by imidizing the polyamic acids; the two substrates are arranged so that the liquid crystal alignment layers face each other; a liquid crystal layer is interposed between the two substrates; and the liquid crystal layer is irradiated with ultraviolet light while being applied with a voltage.
