Abstract:
A liquid crystal display element that has a liquid crystal layer between a pair of substrates provided with electrodes, at least one of the pair of substrates having a liquid crystal alignment film that vertically aligns liquid crystals, the liquid crystal display element being obtained by arranging between the pair of substrates a liquid crystal composition that includes a polymerizable compound that is polymerized by active energy beam and/or by heat, by curing the liquid crystal composition while one part or all of the liquid crystal composition demonstrates liquid crystal properties, and by forming a cured product composite of liquid crystals and the polymerized compound. The liquid crystal alignment film that is comprised by the liquid crystal display element is obtained from a liquid crystal alignment treatment agent that includes a solvent indicated by formula [1] and a polymer that has at least one type of structure selected from the group that comprises the structures indicated by formula [2-1] and formula [2-2]. Formula [1] (S1 and S2 indicate a C1-4 alkyl group.) Formula [2-1] (Y1, Y2, and Y3 indicate a single bond or the like, Y4 and Y5 indicate a benzene ring or the like, n is 0-4, and Y6 indicates a C1-18 alkyl group or the like.) Formula [2-2] (Y7 indicates a single bond or the like, and Y8 indicates a C8-22 alkyl group or the like.)
