Abstract:
A liquid crystal display element is provided which exhibits excellent optical properties and which has a lower drive voltage of the liquid crystal display elements. This liquid crystal display element has a liquid crystal layer obtained by irradiating with UV rays and curing a liquid crystal composition that contains a polymerizable compound and liquid crystals arranged between a pair of substrates provided with an electrode; the liquid crystal display element assumes a scattered state when no voltage is applied and a transparent state when a voltage is applied, and is characterized in that the aforementioned liquid crystals have positive dielectric anisotropy and the aforementioned liquid crystal composition contains a compound represented by formula [1].
