Abstract:

[Problem] To provide: a liquid crystal lenticular lens element that is lightweight and that uses a simple structure to smoothly display an appropriate stereoscopic image in accordance with positional change of a viewer; a stereoscopic display device and a terminal device that comprise the liquid crystal lenticular lens element; and a driving method therefor. [Solution] A liquid crystal lenticular lens element (61) that: comprises a first substrate (10), a second substrate (20) that is parallel thereto, a liquid crystal layer (30) that is provided between the substrates, a first electrode that is formed on the liquid crystal layer (30) side of the first substrate (10), and a second electrode comprising a plurality of stripe-shaped electrodes that are formed on the liquid crystal layer (30) side of the second substrate (20); and that is characterized by having a configuration in which a stripe-shaped repeating structure that comprises a repeating unit along the arrangement direction of the second electrode is formed and an asymmetrical refractive index distribution is induced on a plane that bisects each of the repeating units in a direction that is perpendicular to the arrangement direction by applying an electrical signal from the exterior to each of the electrodes.
