Abstract:
Provided are a liquid crystal orientation agent enabling a liquid crystal display element having high response speed and excellent AC-derived afterimage characteristics, and a liquid crystal display element. The liquid crystal display element is formed by compounding a polymerizable compound represented by formula (1) into the liquid crystal orientation agent and/or a liquid crystal layer (X1 and X2 represent linking groups such as ether linkages, S1and S2 represent C2-9 linear alkylene groups, and S1, X1, X2, and S2 are selected such that the molecules have left-right asymmetry).
