Abstract:
A liquid developer which is obtained by dispersing toner particles that contain a pigment and a resin containing a polyester in an insulating liquid in the presence of a dispersant, and wherein the volatilization rate of the insulating liquid after being held at 40°C for 30 minutes is less than 0.26% by mass. A method for producing a liquid developer in which toner particles that contain a pigment and a resin containing a polyester are dispersed in an insulating liquid in the presence of a dispersant, said method comprising: a step 1 wherein toner particles are obtained by melting and kneading a pigment and a resin containing a polyester and then pulverizing the resulting material; a step 2 wherein a toner particle dispersion liquid is obtained by adding a dispersant to the toner particles obtained in step 1 and then dispersing the resulting material into an insulating liquid; and a step 3 wherein a liquid developer is obtained by subjecting the toner particle dispersion liquid obtained in step 2 to wet pulverization. In this method for producing a liquid developer, the volatilization rate of the insulating liquid after being held at 40°C for 30 minutes is less than 0.26% by mass. A liquid developer according to the present invention is suitable for use in development of latent images that are formed, for example, by an electrophotographic method, an electrostatic recording method, an electrostatic printing method or the like.
