Abstract:
A lithium ion secondary battery which comprises: a positive electrode that contains, as a positive electrode active material, a lithium nickel composite oxide having a layered rock salt structure; a negative electrode that contains a negative electrode active material which is capable of absorbing and desorbing lithium ions; an electrolyte; and an outer package. The lithium nickel composite oxide is represented by composition formula LiNixM1-xO2 (wherein x represents a number of 0.75-1 and M represents at least one metal element other than Ni occupying a nickel site), and has, when fully charged, a crystal phase having an interplanar spacing d(003) that is larger than the interplanar spacing d(003) at the time of complete discharge.
