Abstract:
Provided is a high-capacity lithium ion secondary battery that has better durability than before. This lithium ion secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator. The positive electrode has a positive electrode current collecting foil 31a and a positive electrode mixture layer 31b that is provided on a surface of the positive electrode current collecting foil 31a. The positive electrode mixture layer 31b has a surface part 31s that faces the negative electrode via the separator and a deep part 31d that is provided between the surface part 31s and the positive electrode current collecting foil 31a. The surface part 31s contains positive electrode active material particles Ps that have an average particle size that is greater than the average particle size of positive electrode active material particles Pd contained in the deep part 31d. Additionally, the voidage between the positive electrode active material particles Ps in the surface part 31s is lower than the voidage between the positive electrode active material particles Pd in the deep part 31d.
