Abstract:

A lithium ion secondary battery provided with a positive electrode, a nonaqueous electrolytic solution, a separator, and a negative electrode made by using a carbonaceous material capable of effecting lithium ion charge and discharge, wherein the negative electrode contains one or more kinds of graphite materials which simultaneously satisfy both of the conditions: (a) that the relation between the particle sizes and specific surface areas of the materials lies in a specified range, and (b) that the R value (=IB/IA) which is the ratio of the intensity IA of the peak in the range of 1,570-1,620 cm?-1� to the intensity IB of the peak in the range of 1,350-1,370 cm?-1� falls within the range of 0.001-0.2 when Raman spectrum analyses are performed on the materials. This battery has a large capacity and, in addition, excellent quick chargeability and dischargeability, charge and discharge potential stability, and cycle characteristic.
