Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for producing a lithium sulfide-carbon complex. The process is characterized by comprising filling a mixture of lithium sulfide and a carbon material having a specific surface area of 60 m2/g or more in an electrically conductive mold, and applying a pulsed direct current to the mixture in a low-moisture-content non-oxidative atmosphere while pressurizing the mixture, thereby reacting lithium sulfide with the carbon material under heated conditions. Also disclosed is a lithium sulfide-carbon complex comprising lithium sulfide and a carbon material, which is produced by the above-mentioned process. The complex is characterized by having a carbon content of 15 to 70 mass%, a tap density of 0.4 g/cm3 or more when the carbon content is 30 mass% or more, and a tap density of 0.5 g/cm3 or more when the carbon content is less than 30 mass%. With respect to lithium sulfate that is expected to be put into practical use as a high-capacity positive electrode active material, it becomes possible to further improve electron conductivity and properties required for use as a positive electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery.
