Title:
LITHIUM-SULFUR BATTERY HAVING HIGH ENERGY DENSITY
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2023/211164
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Disclosed is a lithium-sulfur battery having a high energy density, using a sparingly solvating electrolyte (SSE) system (discharge capacity, up to 1,600 mAh/gs) rather than a conventional catholyte electrolyte system (discharge capacity, up to 1,200 mAh/gs) and not using a nitrile-based solvent so as to utilize at least 80% of the theoretical discharge capacity (1,675 mAh/g) of sulfur, and also using a cathode carbon material having a high specific surface area, thereby even implementing excellent lifespan performance. The lithium-sulfur battery comprises: an electrolyte, which includes a first solvent containing a fluorine-based ether compound, a second solvent containing a glyme-based compound, and a lithium salt; and a cathode including sulfur and a carbon material as active materials thereof, wherein the carbon material comprises two or more types of carbon materials having different average pore sizes.
