The invention relates to the field of multimedia internet technology. Provided in an embodiment of the invention are a live time-shifting method and device and a set-top box. The method comprises: receiving, by a secondary set-top box, a time-shifting operation instruction for a target live broadcasting channel during a process of broadcasting a stream of the target live broadcasting channel; acquiring, by the secondary set-top box, and from a primary set-top box paired with the secondary set-top box, a historical broadcast stream of the target live broadcasting channel, wherein the primary set-top box is provided with a storage storing the recorded historical broadcast stream of the target live broadcasting channel; and performing, by the secondary set-top box, and according to the acquired historical broadcast stream, time-shifting broadcasting in response to the time-shifting operation instruction. The invention solves a problem in which existing techniques rely on a stream media server to realize time-shifting broadcasting by a set-top box not provided with a storage and result in an excessive use of resources of the stream media server. By using a paired primary set-top box to realize live time-shift, the invention prevents an excessive use of resources of a stream media server.
