Abstract:
An image display device such as a projection display capable of reducing speckle noise and improving a screen quality. An illuminating optical device in an image display device (1) for displaying an image by applying a laser beam L to GLV (spatial modulation element) (6) to modulate the laser beam based on an image signal input to the GLV, wherein a plurality of laser beams (1, 1, ...) each having an optical path difference longer than the coherence length of the above laser beam are applied to the GLV.
