A load operable switch device (100) for detection of the presence or absence of an occupant thereon is provided. The load operable switch device includes a first electrically conductive layer (110) and an opposed second electrically conductive layer (120) spaced apart from the first electrically conductive layer, wherein each electrically conductive layer includes a plurality of protruding contact portions (115, 115a) extending towards each other, and each contact portion of each electrically conductive layer has a corresponding contact portion of the other layer, such that upon abutment of a contact portion with its corresponding contact portion of the other layer, electrical communication between the first electrically conductive layer and the second electrically conductive layer is provided. And an elastically deformable separation layer (130) is disposed between the first and second conductive layers. A switch system and a pre-emptive alerting device are also provided. The device and the system are reliable and if a child or infant or pet is left in a vehicle, a parent or owner could be notified timely.
