[PROBLEMS] A lock device for a vehicle seat, in which noise caused by rattling of a seatback is reliably prevented by a simple and inexpensive structure. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The lock device has a fork (3) and a lock plate (4) that are installed on a case (2). The fork (3) has a holding groove (13) with which a striker (7) is engaged and held and pivots between a “locked position” and a “lock off position.” The lock plate (4) pivots between a “limited position” at which pivoting of the fork (3) from the “locked position” to the “lock off position” is limited and a “limitation eliminated position” at which pivoting from the “locked position” to the “lock off position” is permitted. The lock device further has a control member (5). When the fork (3) pivots excessively, the control member (5) holds the fork (3) at an “excessively pivoted position” and limits its return to the “locked position” side, and when the fork (3) pivots from the “locked position” to the “lock off position,” the control member (5) eliminates the limitation on the pivoting of the fork (3). In this way, when the fork (3) pivots excessively, the control member (5) limits return-pivoting of the fork (3) to the “locked position,” so that noise caused by the return-pivoting of the fork (3) is reliably prevented from occurring.
