Description:
Title:

A lock device.

The prior art:

The present invention relates to a lock device or more specifically a lock activation device configured for activating the lock catch of a lock by rotating a lock axle between a locked and an unlocked position, the lock device comprising a lock activator with a housing comprising a base plate, at least an electrical motor, a control system configured for activation of the electrical motor, and a rotatable activator axle connected to the electrical motor via a transmission and extending out of the housing through the base plate.

Lock devices of the above mentioned kind are well known in many different embodiments, e.g. from WO 2006098690 disclosing a battery powered lock device configured for being mounted on e.g. a door leaf or another lockable wing construction having a lock arranged in a cavity in the door leaf and where the lock is constructed so that the lock catch may be activated via a lock axle extending through a hole arranged in one side face (e.g. the side face of the door facing inwardly to a space in a building) and leading to the lock in the cavity.

The object of the invention:

On this background it is the purpose of the present invention to provide a lock device being easy to service and repair. According to the present invention this is achieved when the housing and the base plate comprises at least one projection and socket being adapted for allowing the socket to slide freely, and perpendicular to the front surface, on the projection until the base plate rests against the front surface, and for holding the base plate in a fixed angular position with respect to the adaptor plate about an axis of rotation defined by the rotatable activator axle, and where the base plate and the adaptor plate further comprises holding means adapted for holding the base plate in contact with the front surface, and for allowing that the base plate can only be shifted away from the adaptor plate just by pulling the base plate by a certain force away from the adaptor plate.

The holding means are adapted to be released by pulling the base plate away from the adaptor plate with a certain force allowing for the manual separation of the base plate from the adaptor plate. Here a certain force is to be understood such that he base plate may be separated from the adaptor plate by hand without tools. Such holding means may include, but is not limited to, a mechanical snap fit engagement; a friction fit engagement; or a magnetic engagement as further detailed below. The holding means is thus to implement a force profile for displacing the base plate with respect to the adaptor plate in an axial direction parallel to the rotatable activator axle, wherein the force profile keeps the base plate in place when this is attached to the adaptor plate, and provides a certain barrier for separating the base plate from the adaptor plate, which can be surmounted by hand when pulling the base plate in the axial direction away from the adaptor plate.

Thereby it is easy to remove the lock device from e.g. a door wing by pulling it away from the adaptor plate, so that the lock device may be serviced in a more appropriate place. Furthermore such a tool-less removable motor lock is also advantageous in an emergency situation to quickly remove the motor unit and access and/or operate the locking mechanism manually. In a preferred embodiment each projection is arranged on the adaptor plate, and the socket is arranged on the base plate.

In this relation the at least one projection may advantageously be in the form of a pin extending perpendicular from the front surface of the adaptor plate, and the socket is a hole extending through the base plate and having a cross section allowing the hole just to slide on the pin.

In a further preferred embodiment the holding means comprises at least one magnet, and that the magnet is adapted for holding the base plate in contact with the front surface by magnetic attraction.

Here the magnet may preferably be a permanent magnet arranged on the adaptor plate, and the base plate being made from a magnetizable material.

Furthermore the adaptor plate is preferably made from a non-magnetizable material, and where each magnet is mounted in a slot arranged in the adaptor plate. The adaptor plate may further comprise at least three separate permanent magnets arranged on different sides of the through hole. This allows that the permanent magnets can be arranged so that they surround the through hole.

The invention is especially advantageous in relation to lock devices where the housing further comprises a battery socket adapted for receiving a set of electrical batteries in order to provide power for at least the electrical motor.

Further the invention provides easy access to battery exchange when the battery socket is accessible from an opening arranged on the same side of the housing as the base plate. The drawing:

In the following one or more embodiments of the invention will be described in more detail and with reference to the drawing, where:

Fig. 1 : Is a perspective drawing showing an adaptor plate for mounting a lock motor on a door wing, Fig. 2: Is a perspective principle sketch showing an exploded view of the adaptor plate shown in figure 1 mounted on a door plate and with a lock motor.

Fig. 3: Is a side view of the housing of the lock device according to the inven- tion.

Description of exemplary embodiments:

Fig. 1 , 2 and 3 shows different views of the present invention as stated above.

According to this embodiment of the invention the lock device comprises a housing 1 , with a rugged base plate 2 made from a magnetizable material, such as iron or steel, The housing 1 is shown in figure 2 with punctured lines and in figure 3 in a side view, and according to an embodiment of the invention, shown in principle on figure 2, the housing 1 has a battery opening/socket 3 arranged in the housing 1 at the same side as the where the base plate 2 I arranged. The housing further comprises an activator axle 4 being rotatably arranged in the housing so that it can rotate about an axis of rotation 5, and so that it can activate a conventional lock in e.g. a door wing 10 by inserting the activator axle 4 in a hole 6 on the conventional lock.

As it is well known from prior art he housing further comprises an electrical motor, control system for activating the electrical motor to rotate the activator axle 4, and a set of batteries arranged in the battery opening/socket 3 adapted for providing electrical power to the motor and the control system. The electrical motor, the control system and the batteries are not shown in the drawings as it will be apparent to the skilled person to suggest various embodiments for implementing such components without departing from the scope of the present invention.

In figure 3 a handle 7 for is attached to an end (not shown) of the activator axle 4, allowing that the activator axle 4 may be rotated manually by rotating the handle about the axis of rotation 5.

The lock device further comprises an adaptor plate 8 for mounting the housing on e.g. a door wing 10 equipped with a door handle 9 and a lock latch 1 1 adapted for being activated by the lock device to move to and from its locked position as shown in figure 2.

In this embodiment of the invention the adaptor, plate shown in detail in figure 1 , and as part of the lock device in figure 2, has a set of permanent magnets 12, an a set of pins 13 extending perpendicular from the front surface 14 of the adaptor plate. By shifting the housing 1 along the axis of rotation 5 as shown in figure 2 the pins 13 will slide into the through holes 15 in the base plate 2 until the base plate 2 rests against the front surface 14 and the permanent magnets 12 will keep the base plate 2 in this position by magnetic force, so that the lock device via the activator axle 4 can activate the lock in the door wing 10. When the housing 1 is mounted on the adaptor plate 8, then the battery opening/socket 3 is hidden behind the housing until the housing is manually pulled away from the adaptor plate against the force of the magnets. The adaptor plate 8 is in this embodiment made from a non-magnetic material, such as plastic or cast aluminum, and it is adapted for being mounted in different angular positions on e.g. a door wing 10 by inserting the screws 16 into selected holes 17 arranged in a circle around the central through hole 18 in the adaptor plate 8. Due to the asymmetric positioning of the pins 19 it is only possible to mount the housing in one angular position with respect to the adaptor plate, and the pins 19 will keep this mutual angular position of the housing and the adaptor plate as long as the pins 19 are inserted into the through holes 15 in the base plate. The adaptor plate further has a peripheral flange 20 that extends into the housing adjacent a threaded hole 21 arranged in the housing in such a way that a pointed screw (not shown) can be screwed into the threaded hole and so that the point of the pointed screw is pressed into the peripheral flange. Thereby it is possible to interlock the housing 1 and the adaptor plate 8 so that it is not possible to pull the housing away from the adaptor plate without removing the pointed screw.

It will be apparent to the skilled person that other embodiments of the present invention may be suggested e.g. to be adapted for activation of different types of door locks or the like, and without departing form the principle of the present invention.
