Abstract:
A lock-up clutch configured in such a manner that the temperature distribution of multiple friction surfaces is uniformized to improve the control accuracy of the lock-up clutch and to minimize the occurrence of shudder. Friction materials (51-55) for forming three or more friction surfaces (51f-55f) in the spacings which are created by a front cover (15), a lock-up piston (31), and torque transmitting plates (32, 33, 35, 36) comprise the first friction material (51) having friction with the front cover (15), the second friction material (55) having friction with the lock-up piston (31), and the third friction materials (52, 53, 54) individually having friction with one of the plates (32-36). The three or more friction surfaces (51f-55f) comprise: the outer friction surfaces (51f, 55f) having a small area and consisting of the first and second friction materials (51, 55); and the inner friction surfaces (52f, 53f, 54f) having a large area and consisting of the third friction materials (52, 53, 54).
